Abstract
So ended another typical high school debate tournament in Iowa in 1979. I was there and cannot help thinking there ought to be a better way to conduct a debate tournament. It should be possible to have all debaters on their way home from a tournament by 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, roughly 24 hours after the tournament begins. Furthermore, there should be a larger variety of judges available for the semifinal and final rounds. Ideally it should be possible for a high school debate coach to be on the panel in each of these apparently important rounds.
