Abstract

Institutions and individuals involved in the preparation of speech and drama teachers in Iowa currently face a number of critical issues. The Speech Communication Association, in consultation with the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education programs, has prepared a detailed set of guidelines for undergraduate and graduate speech and drama education programs. These guide-lines will be used to evaluate college and university teacher education programs that wish to obtain or maintain N.C.A.T.E. approval in the future. Eighteen Iowa institutions currently hold N.C.A.T.E. endorsement in secondary speech education.
