Abstract
The idea of the one-year internship for teacher trainees has been widely discussed for at least a decade. For the most part, however, the actual implementation of such a program has never been brought to fruition. The lack of widespread acceptance and support for this approach to an old, nagging problem has been a disappointment, not only for the advocates of the idea, but also for many of the teacher trainees who have passed through one of the current attempts to educate an undergraduate student to become a proficient elementary or secondary teacher.
