Abstract
The primary purpose of this research paper is to investigate the effectiveness of computer animations in chemistry teaching. This is done by first defining what computer animation is and giving an historical background of its development, and then by describing levels of chemistry understanding, general and cognitive functions of animations, and exploring aspects that make animations and their applications effective in the context of chemistry teaching. Also, the paper describes how computer animations increase and enhance conceptual understanding, long-term retention, achievement, and attitudes toward subject matter. Implications are given for instructors to more effectively incorporate computer animations into their instructional repertoire.
