Abstract
Technology is an integral part of society and has transformed health-care practices, with guidance needed to help mental health providers assess if the constantly evolving technology not currently part of mainstream treatment is appropriate for care. The rapid transition to the use of telehealth is a prime example of how technology can benefit care, in addition to how this technology was available much earlier but not integrated into practice for the majority of providers. To help systemic trained clinicians be innovative in using technology, guidelines are provided to help determine whether and how they should integrate technology into systemic clinical practice. These include assessing if the technology is ethical, increases accessibility and acceptability to care, improves outcomes, and increases efficiency of care for both the client and provider. Specific examples of how adoption of technology may be impacted by clinical practice contexts and organizational constraints are discussed.
