Abstract

This review examines and compares state-of-the-art decision support technologies of the early 1980s with today’s technologies. Also, several specific examples of Data and Model-Driven DSS from the early 1980s are compared to current implementations of Decision Support Systems. Further, emerging technologies are briefly described that may be useful for building even more sophisticated Decision Support Systems. The general conclusion is that technologies enable us to build more sophisticated and more powerful systems, but the focus must be on better supporting decision-making rather than on implementing new technologies. © 2001 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
