Abstract

An investigation of the preparation of cis- and trans chlorobis(ethylenediamine)iodochromium(III) salts by the thermal decomposition of cisaquachlorobis(ethylenediamine)chromium(IlI) iodide 1-hydrate was made. The trans-isomer was precipitated from a filtered aqueous solution of the crude product by the addition of sodium perchlorate. The cis-isomer was separated from the residue of the preparation of the transisomer by cation-exchange chromatograohy. Elemental analyses showed that the two products were not pure cisand trans-chlorobis(ethylenediamine)iodochromium(III) complexes. From the halide to chromium ratios it was proposed that the trans-isomer was contaminated by transdichlornbis(ethylenediamine)chromium(III) perchlorate and the cis-isomer was contaminated by cisbis(ethylenediamine)diiodochromium(III) cation.
