Abstract
On Wednesday, March 11, 2009, Elizabeth Ann Carr, soprano, presented a recital in partial fulfillment of the Master of Music Degree in vocal performance. The recital opened with On this Island, a cycle of songs by Benjamin Britten, set to the collection of poetry by W.H. Auden entitled Look, Stranger! This cycle was followed by three melodies by Faure, on the poetry of Verlaine and Samain. The second half of the recital featured Menotti's Canti della lontananza on text written by the composer, and the last set consisted of three complimentary songs of Joseph Marx on text by Lingen, Hartleben, and Heyse.
