Abstract

Breta Borstad and collaborative pianist Kirstin Dyer performed a recital for the degree of Master of Music in Flute Performance-on 13 March 2008. The repertoire consisted of the Sonata in G Major, Wq. 134, H. 548, by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach; the Suite for Flute and Piano, Op. 34, by Charles-Marie Widor; Le Merle Noir by Olivier Messiaen; and the Sonata in D Major, Op. 94, by Sergei Prokofiev. The purpose of this abstract is to provide historical background for the works, as well as stylistic and formal considerations.
