Abstract

On Friday, March 15, 2013 at 6:00 in the evening, soprano Kelley Raymon presented a graduate recital in Davis Hall at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa. The program included Gustav Mahler’s Rückert Lieder, a set of five songs set to texts by German poet Friedrich Rückert, a set of five mélodies by Henri Duparc, a set of seven songs from Charles Ives’s 114 Songs, and the aria Pleurez, pleurez, mes yeux! from Jules Massenet’s opera Le Cid. As you read this abstract, please read the texts and translations along with each description of each piece in order to more fully understand the coalescence of the poetry and music. The texts and translations are included with the program.
