Description
Over 80% of the new undergraduate freshmen direct from high school who enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa for the Fall Semester 1982 participated in a national survey designed to secure characteristics of students entering college as first time, full-time freshmen. The survey, a part of the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP), was conducted jointly by the American Council on Education and the University of California at Los Angeles. A total of 188,692 freshmen, including 1,538 from UNI, from 350 institutions in the United States were included in the 1982 norms. The information secured from the UNI freshmen is shown in Tables 1, 2, and 2A.
The Student Information Form, administered during orientation or registration to the first-time, full-time freshmen was designed to secure biographic and demographic data, as well as data on the student's high school background, career plans, educational aspirations, financial arrangements, and current attitudes. (See Appendix A)
In addition to the information secured from the Student Information Form, a questionnaire (See Appendix B) containing ten supplemental questions pertaining only to University of Northern Iowa students was also completed by 1,440 new freshmen and 620 new transfers who entered UNI Fall Semester 1982. The responses are shown in Table 3.
