Abstract

This study examined whether relational standards predict commitment in romantic relationships. The importance of relational standards and the importance-weighted extent to which these standards were fulfilled predicted commitment over and above traditional predictors such as satisfaction, investment, and alternatives. Men and women reported similar levels of importance/ fulfillment of standards.
